Folkestone, England

11th June 2005
Folkestone, England A fantastic day of running, navigating and driving through some of the nicest country areas in the south east of England. The Saxon Shore relay is an annual event setup to run part of the ancient Saxon Shore Way that weaves it's way through many villages in south east Kent. The race is a 48 mile (about 75kms) relay. 4 or 5 runners - each doing legs of around 2-3miles (5kms or so). We used a sweat band (arm!) for our baton for each runner to pass to the next at the changeovers. It was a great day - the weather was just fine, sometimes a little cloudy but generally perfect running weather. We entered a mixed team in the event, and guess what? WE WON! We were the first mixed team to come in taking 5 hours and 58 minutes to run the entire section. We won thanks to Christian and Lyndi who are superb atheletes and always got the lead back whenever I, Bec or Pete lost it during our legs! A special mention to Laura, who was a superb navigator and helped us all get to the change over points by driving us all over the place! Thanks Laura! Not sure when my next run will be, but I think it's time to a break from all this running now the summer is here! Time to enjoy the outdoors! :)
